The other day I made eye contact with an older gentleman, just as we both realized we were wearing the same outfit: flat-brimmed hat, scarf, tortoiseshell glasses, and layers of neutral wool and plaid. We both put a hand to our brim in a silent salute to kindred style, and went our separate ways…
Michelle Obama, basically.
I love seeing women rocking their own personal style. The most flattering thing a woman can wear is her confidence.
My granny and Queen Elizabeth II. I love to wear a scarf on my head when it is windy and/or cold, and the Queen’s pairing of pins and pearls is just my style. Little girls are always fascinated with my scarves.
Mine would be a full pie of:
Wishing that Garanimals existed for adults.
Old photos of my mom from the 80’s, swoon.
Strangers on the subway! The other day on the Q train I was dying to ask a fellow rider where she’d gotten her amazing boots but she had headphones in and I thought tapping her on the shoulder was a bridge too far….
LOL! I shop the subway all the time! Especially helpful when you want to know how shoes hold up!
I work in a restaurant, so my first thought is my customers! I have to wear a really tacky chef outfit, so I’m always eyeing the looks of folks who come in through our doors. One girl came in the other day in a LBD, barely-above-the-ankle pink lace socks, white canvas Keds, and a slouchy denim jacket, and I was like YES! I must copy that beyond these uniformed walls in my daily life. Haha.
My mom, who managed to look good no matter what
Audrey Hepburn
Carolyn Bessette
Meghan Markle (her coat game is incredible)
The Modcloth Mavens – hello plus size style for FUN. Who knew?
Mary Tyler Moore. The Crown. Katherine Hepburn.
Cool athleisure mom at preschool drop-off…how does she manage to look so awesome AND comfortable?
Adult children
Flowers in the morning
Old jeans
Audrey Hepburn for sure
A beautiful well made leather purse and sandals
Clouds
Hot sand at the beach
Art history professors.
French women.
Nuns (seriously, black and white!).
Equestrians.
Gloria Steinem.
I’d add fashionable women from old Hollywood movies! Their look is definitely my style goals! And a little bit from the men in old movies, mainly a fedora & trench. Lately, I’ve been wearing hats and linen pants like old movies, here: https://bit.ly/2vbHMEA I’ve also been trying to find a great pair of paper bag pants, but no luck yet!
