Do you guys ever take your little ones on dates? Now that he’s (almost!) two, Toby and I are starting a new tradition…
Toby is enamored of the French cafe across the street from our apartment; every time we walk by, he points to the window and asks if we can go inside. So, we decided that every Saturday morning, we’ll have brunch there, just the two of us. We dress up for our date in our favorite clothes–this time, I wore pink jeans, and Toby wore train-conductor overalls (since he’s currently in training). When the waitress comes, Toby can now say “quiche” all by himself!
We read the paper while we wait for our breakfast (me = the Book Review, Toby = the Automobile section)…
But Toby sometimes has a hard time waiting, so we also try on sunglasses.
Finally, the waitress arrives! We give her a hearty round of applause, since when you’re a toddler, you clap for pretty much everything.
The quiche with Gruyere and spinach is delicious, and we wolf it up.
Afterward, we mingle with other customers, play hide-and-seek with the friendly waitress and do upside-down kisses.
And then we walk home. I’m looking forward to our new Saturday breakfast tradition. Do you have any rituals or “dates” with your little ones?
P.S. Toby saying, “Quiche.” :)
