Teacher who decided to leave the profession at the end of the previous school year- feeling many feelings about the first back to school season I am not teaching in- for 10 years. But mostly the most incredible relief. Right now back to school is sort of traumatic- I can’t wait until a few years go by and I can feel excited about school supplies again like I used to. Good luck to all the parents, teachers and students. :)
I am so sad summer is over this year… we had such a blast doing this amazing roadtrip as a fam after leaving 4 years ago to come back to france. Daily life is definitely not as fun…. Everything is falling back on my shoulders like nickodeleon green glu… somehow it took me twi days to go back to my dirty hair – no sport working from home routine. All the dreams from thos big hikes feels so long gone. Im glad i wrote down everything so i can remember this perfect joy.
I wish all of you lots of courage and send you hugs grom frànce! Xxx
When my son was little, I always felt so sad when summer ended and those sweet days together would end. I still feel sad when I remember it! I never understood people who were happy to “get rid” of their kids (quoting a colleague) I am not judging, everyone’s different. For me, hanging out with my child was bliss.
My daughter went all in on back to school vibes https://open.substack.com/pub/ourladyofstyle/p/first-day-fit?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=2ppr6p
Speaking as a veteran teacher…the pen love is real…especially Bic Flair felt tip pens! And yeah. planning the first day of school outfit is definitely a thing for teachers too!
It is the time of year when the fashion world is full of delicious cozy, chunky sweaters and great looking boots! Alas I live in Southern California! Always get that back to school need new clothes vibe!
I’m a bit of each. Working in a school I love seeing the kids on the first day. The start of the year feels fresh too. In the US, how long is your break? I feel like over Summer holidays in Australia we need more! My own kids envy “Summer Break” they see in the movies.
Most schools have around 10-12 weeks off! Some areas have a shorter break, only around 8 weeks.
As a current stay at home mom and former teacher hoping to go back in the future, I keep looking at all the back to school stuff and missing having my own classroom and students! My back to school feelings were always excitement to meet new students and first day jitters (teachers get them too!). The beginning of the year is always fun AND exhausting!
So this year, I’m enjoying being home with my baby for another year and getting to miss out on the back to school prep while simultaneously looking forward to hopefully being the queen of my classroom again next school year!
I’m a librarian at a college and a part-time grad student, so I’m somewhere in between “oh, great, the students are back and campus isn’t empty anymore” and “I have so much reading to do when am I going to do it omg”
All of them in a weird rotation. As professor/mom of teens/serial office supplies buyer, I’m all about Back-to-School.
Hallelujah – this household was very ready for a bit more routine in our lives. I work from home so there’s routine in our summer lives too, but not quite the same. Happy to be back in the rhythm!
starting grad school after a 15 year gap since undergrad… nervous/new pens all the way!
I just started a PhD at 46!!!! Hooray for ladies who just go for it!!
That is amazing, Jill and Jennie! I am almost done w my Masters at age 50 ❤️
Starting my MSW program this week at almost 57!! A big stack of cute notebooks, an oversized wall calendar, and a big jar of pens! And a new backpack!!!
all.of.them. i’m a teacher/parent/grandparent so i understand all the phases. 📚🗓️🚌⏰🍁
Ummm…teacher who’s wildly anxious and swamped by new preps & anxious AP students, plus parent stressed about her child who’s decided school is the worst and screams every morning. That’s me.
I’m so sorry – I haven’t done the teacher part, but I’ve done the kid part for sure and it’s HARD. I hope that by October, all of you have found your groove!
The empty nest/ box of kleenex vibe over here, trying to stay busy and ignore the quiet in the house.
Hugs, Claire!
Hello Claire. It does get better after awhile. You adjust to the quiet. Hope your weekend is good.
You know that phrase, No matter where you go, there you are? I call bullshit.
