By the wonderful Grace Farris.
P.S. Summer pleasures and NYC things I still haven’t seen.
Great information. Thanks!
Haha I was just talking about this with one of my best friends! We were texting as I packed for a week long vacation in Mexico and commiserated on the challenges of packing. She wrote: “I’m the queen of packing all these ‘lewks’ because I want to be some kind of vacation version of myself and then I arrive and I’m like wait jk I’m still me just in a new place.”
Vacation version of myself! Too real.
Last time we traveled to visit my parents (two airplane rides), my kindergartener packed his bag with an apple and a pinecone. You know, the essentials!
I love little kid packing! I took photos of some of my son’s early attempts because they were so sweet—and let me know what was most important to him.
I am such an aspirational packer!!!
Me planning outfits for trips: I need something impossibly chic, trendy, but also timeless. Shoes that ‘go’ but do not ‘match’ the outfit, and beautiful jewelry.
Me at home: Pulls on the same pair of rumbled and cat-hair-covered pants for the third day in a row.
Same!!
I feel like I’m a weird combination of all four haha!
Paige
Preschooler – Totally nailed it! on a recent trip my 5 year old packed: rocks, a book, 4 stuffies, a piece of trash (gum wrapper) and a heart shaped stress that I had never seen before. All the essentials ;) Made me laugh when I opened his bag upon arrival.
I actually just thought “is it Friday?”. Cup of Jo is so ingrained in my life!
me too!
Wait, what day is it?!
I’m somehow a combo of aspirational (of course I’ll find time to work out!) and mathematical. My husband is a former Eagle Scout that packs impressively light and it would drive me bonkers–but it means I have room for extra stuff! haha
I am compulsively light packer and usually try to stick to a color theme (aka black, white, grey, and denim 9/10). The only thing I go overboard with is underwear, you can never have too many pairs!!
Secret of life right there! If you have delays or want to extend your vacation, you can re-wear / re-combine clothes pretty easily, but not underwear. And really, who wants to wear crinkly sink-and-bar-soap-hung-to-dry underwear?
Is it… Friday? :) Haha!
hahaha we are doing it early bc of vacation!
I panicked when I saw this post and thought I was missing a Friday morning meeting!
The fourth one is actually my little girl’s current backpack
But guys, it’s thursday.
– says someone who is so heavily relying on routine and Cupofjo to get through a VERY difficult breakup.
sending so much love, naseem!!! we’ve all been there, it’s the WORST feeling. you’ll be happy again, i promise. xoxoxoxo
just chiming in to say i did the same thing almost exactly 2 years ago. sending you hugs, take care of yourself. you’re going to be okay :)
Thank you Joanna and Stacy. I’m in the thick of it. My heart is so broken. But I’m also full of gratitude for my amazing group of friends who have literally showed up for me every single day of the past month and given me so many wonderful reasons to get out of bed.
And Joanna, I don’t know if you remember me. We met at Books are Magic last summer shortly after my (ex) boyfriend and I arrived from Atlanta for him to begin residency. I’m the Naseem from the comment section of Dating Tips from a Therapist. THAT amazing man blindsided me a month ago and I.am.heartbroken. He’s in residency and he is having a hard time. I still think he’s a great human. I’m just really really sad I don’t get to be a part of his life anymore.
Anyway. I’m just releasing some steam. I love this community so much, I’ve been pouring over the heartbreak/breakup posts and the comments and they are keeping me afloat and optimistic.
We are with you Naseem. I am with you! Caroline helped so much. (You hear me, Caroline!? So much!)
It’s been a slow recovery. Aspirin helped the first weeks. One year later, I’m comfortable reminding myself that extraordinary people have survived broken hearts. And we are extraordinary.
I saw a cartoon an got really excited thinking it was Friday! Alas..
Toby and I were walking home from the grocery store, when...
"I love middle schoolers, but I keep an air purifier running all the time."
You know that phrase, No matter where you go, there you are? I call bullshit.
