How do you decide which of your parents to spend the holidays with? My parents divorced when I was 25 and 7 years later, it’s still a source of stress and pain for everyone in my family. Would love any advice you might have on this :)

Thank you! I just shared the “how to fake a British accent” link with my husband because we were team-reading paddington bear to our 2 year old the other day and our accents were laughably bad. :)

Also I want to check out that ferrante book! Never heard of it either….

Oh I am so glad you picked up those novels! Recommended to me by a former English teacher of mine (turned colleague!) and I couldn’t put the series down. Bonus – you will recognize some of the places since you went on a trip to Italy recently. Enjoy!

OHHHH my gosh Joanna!! You are in for such a treat with the Elena Ferrante books! I seriously wish I could read them again for the first time. Took me a while to get into the first one, but once I did I was hooked.

Drunk Elephant is amazing! I tried it for the first time after reading Jean Godfrey-June’s “beauty uniform” last year and have purchased every item from their line since. The Babyfacial is a great product – I hope your Christmas wish for it comes true!

My kids and I recently took the Amtrak from Seattle to Portland. It was the most enjoyable ride and my 10 year old loved it! He hates airports, security, lines, and the tight quarters of a airplane. The space and the pace of the train was his dream come true. I bet your kids would love it stateside as well. Happy Thanksgiving.

Hey Cup of Jo Ladies! I am LOVING your gift guides. One roundup I would also be interested in seeing this year is ways to send gifts to children who might not otherwise receive them this holiday season. I’ve come across a few great ones online (e.g. The Ali Forney Center for LGBTQ homeless youth and the Children’s Action Network’s Santacan Program in LA for at-risk foster children), which allow you to send children the gifts they’ve asked for through the likes of Amazon. Just a thought!

No, you are not the last person to read My Brilliant Friend. I’ve recommended the entire series to every reader I know …to my knowledge none has taken my suggestion. I’m just waiting for their stupefied looks after they’ve finally capitulated and made their way through all four volumes. This saga will blow them away!

The Elena Ferrante books are amazing! I actually started the series after seeing an interview with Morgane Sezalory. I had been enjoying some French novels in translation (not always easy to find) and was looking for something similar. These fit the bill. I actually read all four as one long saga and couldn’t stop. I was so sad when I came to the end and I know I will reread them at some point–a serious commitment, but they really were that good.

Great links! I love the list of don’ts. Not eating at my desk may be my New Year’s resolution. Not just for productivity–I think it’s rude to make my co-workers smell my food. Ina Garten was part of our non-traditional Thanksgiving meal. I made Bearnaise sauce using her blender technique (Martha’s ingredients/proportions). So easy and delicious.
