What are you up to this weekend? We are taking the boys on a “spooky walk” around our neighborhood tonight. The Halloween decorations around us are epic! The boys are totally into it, and Anton especially loves the “‘pooky ‘piders.” Also, here are a few fun links from around the web (the internet has been so good lately!)…

those photos really were startling. i am addicted to my phone and iPad and it used to bother me so much. now that everyone else is addicted its strange trying to steer conversation away from anything that would benefit the use of a quick google search. (hey i heard this… *clicks and scrolls on phone*… see)

your posts as per usual are so eye opening. definitely food for thought.

On weird food combinations — My dad used to make us his popular “salami stacks.” They consisted of rough slices of salami (get the stick, not the pre-packaged sliced), red apples, and cheddar cheese. He’d stick them together on a plate for snacks when we got out of the lake or creek on long summer days. At first, I thought he was crazy, but his backpacking trick was a family hit!

Re: “We are pregnant” – I felt the same way as this article BEFORE I was pregnant. Now (24 weeks pregnant) I couldn’t disagree more. My husband made life happen for us for those first 3-4 months. While I was sick and laying on the couch during every moment that I wasn’t at work, he was grocery shopping, cooking all the meals, cleaning the house, dog walking, helping to make up stories about why he went to happy hour with friends without me, etc. He’d even go to my workout classes with me knowing that I really wanted to go but might not have the energy to get there alone. He pays all the doctor bills that come in the mail because I would totally forget. And he changes the channel when Subaru commercials come on because I’ll start sobbing over the old dog. We used to do a pretty even amount of household tasks, but now he’s still doing well over 50% (plus home reno!). So yes, WE are pregnant.

I love the Halloween decoration story! So many of the things I swore I’d never forget as a parent, have faded to nearly unreadable in my memory, but there is something about walks. The things that caught their eyes, like squatting to touch mossy rocks and telling me that the fuzzy green plants were “sweepin’ mama, be quiet so you don’t waked them up.”

Definitely. I read so many negative comments about it and yet, it described my experience to the point of uncanny resemblance.
I don’t understand why people don’t accept there are absolutely different experiences you live – and the fact that your partner is a complete mess regarding the logistics of motherhood doesn’t mean you have to separate to feel whole. People are different. You can either accept it and move on or feel bitter about it and regret the experience your whole life.

The thing about the “startling” photos is that – before phones it would have been Us Weekly or Sport Illustrated or books or whatever. Everyone keeps saying oh we are so attached to our phones. BEfore I had a smart phone. I would lay in bed – reading books for hours. So take the same picture and replace it with a book or a magazine. Is it then not as startling?

I was thinking the same thing, particularly about magazines. Years ago, I would end my work week by winding down with a fresh pile of magazines. Now it’s blogs, which provide the same sort of soothing, zoning-out effect.

However, the ubiquity of phones and the temptation to constantly check Instagram, FB, etc. is (at least for me) the problem. I don’t allow myself to “just be” enough anymore (while waiting in line, etc.) and instead compulsively fill the quiet with checking my Insta feed or inbox. I’d like to move away from that behavior (as much as I can force myself to). It’s just sort of unnerving to always be “on.”
