Help! Where Should the New Baby Sleep?

I used a bassinet, but I think this time around – while bubs is still small – I would go for a hammock. This way you can move it around the house with you, the swinging soothes baby to sleep, and it keeps the clutter off the floor. You can attach it off a hook on your ceiling. Then I would move to a mini crib.

Not sure what stroller you are using but the uppababy vista’s bassinet is pretty handy……our children both slept in it for a while……on wheels and also a stroller! It is a carrier – bugaboo’s bassinets are not carriers. Very handy.

Otherwise, I’d just stick with a crib – less stuff in an nyc apt.

I dont know what choice is best, but we live in a two bedroom home also. When my son was born he slept in our room in a crib. He didnt sleep all night until he was 10 months old when my husband and I slept on the couches in the living room that night. After that night we moved our mattress to the living room EVERY night till he was around two or so when we put him and my daughter in a room together. Crazy but totally worth a good night of sleep.

Girl, the Bloom Alma is the only way to go. All these ladies whining about small spaces, while we are here tucked into a one-bedroom in Paris with our 19 month-old. The Alma (which I first saw on Rockstar Diaries before Eleanor was born) fits perfectly into a nook in our bedroom, and since she turned six months, we wheel her out into the livingroom every night when we go to bed. She is getting a wee big for it, but it doesn’t bother her sleep at all. We knew so much we were going to love it that I had my mom haul it over on her commercial flight from Minneapolis.
The Alma is by far the best baby purchase we have made thus far.

I had the exact cosleeper that you’ve pictured above (the first bed option) and it worked really well. It fit my daughter until she was 6 months old and then we moved her into a room with her 3 year old sister. It’s a daily struggle and a dance of sorts getting them both down to sleep without disturbing the other child but we’re hoping to make it work because no matter how large our apartment (it’s only a 1.5 bedroom) I’d still want them to share a room. I love the idea of siblings sharing.

This isn’t a very helpful comment for planning ahead, but I think it all depends on what sort of sleeper the baby turns out to be. We kept our daughter in a moses basket for the first 3 months, but then had to move her to a crib because she became a really active sleeper. She would work her way from the top of the basket to the bottom in no time. She still technically fit into the basket with room to spare, but the moving negated all that. Even in her big crib she moves around a ton.
Plus, she’s a noisy sleeper so we needed her out of the room to let us get some rest (every time she made a noise I was awake and checking on her)
So if you only want one thing, I’d go for the biggest and most portable so you know she can move around, will fit in it longest, and you can at least wheel her into the hall or living room at night if you need some quiet…
